The results of the study have been published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology. Researchers have made this conclusion based on data analysis of 12 thousand 364 people aged 55 to 73 years. These participants in the UK Biobank study were followed from 2006 to early 2021. During this period, two thousand three hundred four cases of dementia.
An analysis of the data found an association between macular degeneration, cataracts, and diabetic eye disease with a higher risk of dementia. However, no association was found with glaucoma.
