Mr. Costa’s world record is the longest aircraft flight taken through the tunnel for a distance of 1,730 meters. Italian air-race competitor and stunt pilot Dario Costa has been placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for flying through two tunnels in Istanbul, Turkey.
The video of the flight was posted on Facebook on September 4, 2021, by the Austrian company Red Bull. The video has received 1.4 lakh responses and has been shared 62 thousand times.
Mr. Costa’s flight was seen flying inside one of the Catalca tunnels outside Istanbul. As the flight progresses, it is airborne before exiting the first tunnel.
The second tunnel is longer, but Mr. Costa can easily pass through it. Soon after coming out of the second tunnel, a camera inside the plane shows him screaming and crying with joy.
The caption of the Red Bull reads, “Dario takes the flight game to the next level with his flight through Istanbul’s Catalca Tunnels, flies 2.6 km through 2 tunnels at an average speed of 245.07 km/h and becomes a Guinness World Record pilot.”
The stunt also set another record. It became the first flight through the tunnel. The first aircraft flight through two tunnels. The first plane to fly through the tunnel and the longest flight under a solid obstacle.
The audience was stunned after watching the video. One user, Finn James, wrote, “Absolutely amazing. Congratulations, Dario, I screamed in my living room the very moment you caught my breath! That precision and mastery of control were awesome to watch.”
Another user, Richard Lee, compared Mr. Costa’s feats and the game Grand Theft Auto. The user wrote, “When GTA is not enough, and you need to IRL it.”
A spectator named Timothy Adam was impressed with the stunt and said, “This is the strangest plane stunt in the history of aviation. I dare you to find something more intense, challenging, or dangerous.”
One user called it “hypnotic” because Mr. Costa flew through the tunnel. Another user wrote in support of the idea, “It reminds me of the 2001 Space Odyssey.”
Some users even resorted to jokes to praise Mr. Costa. One such viewer, Brad Cohen, wrote, “Mr. Costa, tollway authorities would like to discuss the fact that you forgot to stop at the toll booth.”
